MERS infection

A 58-year-old woman died of acuter respiration failure after testing positive for MERS on Monday - making her the country's first death from the new outbreak of the deadly virus.
She had contact with South Korea's first patient, 68-year-old man who contracted the virus when on a business trip in Bahrain but is still receiving hospital treatment.
The second fatality is a 71-year-old man, who had been on respiratory support with a history of kidney ailments.
South Korea has reported 25 cases of MERS since its first case on May 20.
More than 680 people who had close contact with the patients, such as relatives and medical staff, have now been put in quarantine as officials try to stop the spread of the deadly disease.
The new outbreak of MERS saw British patients tested.
Authorities in the Middle East are being urged to do more to stop the infection spreading between camels, which then pass it on to humans.
MERS – also dubbed camel flu – has been spreading among those in the region since it was first discovered in 2012.
While the majority of cases have been recorded in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Ermirates and surrounding nations, cases have also been reported in Britain, France, Holland, Austria and Italy, with a Briton tested as recently as three weeks ago.
Starting off as flu-like symptoms, victims can then suffer pneumonia and kidney failure, and nearly 40 per cent of those contaminated end up dying.

  1. When I heard MERS infection erupted in Korean first time, thinking it is as serious as SARS and I feel afraid of it. But the Korean government handled this event badly, and people around the world are disappointed to this thing. Because of their government's pessimistic attitude, some countries around the world are angry with it. But I think the Korean government will be better after this big event.

  2. What we can do is to command the government. They didnt do the first step in order to prevent the virus from spreading . If they saw the event as an emergency, there wouldn't be so many deaths and making people being scared. This event gave Korean Government an important lesson and a tremendous breakdown in tourism.
